Master Gardner Adopts Our “Farmers”

Ken Bass is a member of the Master Gardner’s Association in Springfield.  He has “adopted” our Community Members that plant in our Creekside garden plot.  He came to visit recently to evaluate our garden plot and make suggestions about adding nutrients and compost. He will continue to advise the Members throughout the growing season in order to maximize their yield.  The Members had questions about how to deal with our local deer population who helped themselves to fresh produce last year!  He gave them several solutions to many of their issues from last growing season.

Ken spoke with Community Members who wanted to grow vegetables in containers instead of garden plots.  He brought along examples of containers that he felt would be most appropriate for their back patios.  Ken also provided all the gardeners with a chart of when best to plant individual vegetables in the state of Missouri.  Let’s hope Ken’s green thumb rubs off!Gardner
